Bug Report for xAI Android App Team

Title: Conversation responses erased on device orientation change (Portrait ↔ Landscape) – Android

Reported by: Grok user (monthly Blue Checkmark subscriber)

Date: June 28, 2026

App Version: (version 11.99.0-release.1

com.twitter.android)

Device/OS: Android (user rotated phone)

Description:

When viewing a Grok conversation in the Android app and rotating the device from portrait to landscape (or vice versa), the entire response history in the current thread is erased from the visible screen. The content does not reload or restore automatically, even though the conversation is saved server-side. This forces the user to lose access to long, detailed, token-heavy responses mid-session.

Impact:

- Wastes significant compute resources and energy (xAI data center tokens) with zero benefit to the user or humanity.

- A high-quality, insightful response (e.g., a full “Detective Report” with graphs and reasoning generated in expert mode) can be permanently lost from view in a single accidental rotation.

- Frustrates users, especially on mobile where orientation changes are common.

- Environmental cost: unnecessary recomputation if users ask Grok to regenerate lost content.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Start or continue a conversation with a long Grok response.

2. Rotate the phone from portrait to landscape.

3. Observe: previous responses disappear instead of adapting/reflowing.

Expected Behavior:

The conversation should smoothly reflow or reload preserved history from the server when orientation changes, maintaining full context without data loss.

Suggested Fix Priority: High (affects core user experience + resource efficiency)

This small stability improvement would save xAI money on recomputes, reduce energy use, and better serve humanity by preserving valuable AI outputs. Thank you for escalating this internally.
